Product Review: Amazon Video On Demand

5 out of 5 Star Rating by the Lone Eagle
First there was cable.  Then there was DirecTV followed by DISH Network.  Now there is Netflix, Redbox, and Amazon Video On Demand, Apple TV, and soon Google TV.  There are so many ways to get your television and movie fix these days it is hard to keep up with all the options.  At my house we have so many ways to get TV shows and movies it is just insane!  Here is what we have at my house:  Xbox 360, Wii, Roku, laptop, and iPod Touch (3rd Generation).  Did you know you can now get instant stream to your iPod Touch with Netflix?!  It is insane all the options you have out there!

Well this review is about something my wife and I just started to use yesterday, on Christmas Eve: Amazon Video On Demand.  We used our Roku HD that we bought in September of this year (currently available from Amazon.com for $69.99 + tax and shipping).  The Roku HD we put it our bedroom because our Xbox 360 and Wii are in our living room.  This little box measures less than one inch (1") tall and less than five inches (5") wide!  It is a perfect little device!  We love it!

We used it to use Amazon Video On Demand (VOD).  What is VOD?  The best way to describe VOD is Netflix and Redbox together.  There are some movies that Redbox doesn't offer, some movies you can instant stream to your Netflix enabled devices and don't want to wait to get through the mail.  VOD allows you to now rent and/or buy movies you'll love straight to digital.

Now the great thing right now is that if you register an Amazon VOD enabled device you'll receive a $5 credit to VOD.  What does that mean?  You can watch five (5) 99 movies via VOD without it costing you anything!  Also for a limited time if you get the Amazon Twitter Application you can receive an additional $5 credit (click here for more details)!  We got $10 credit just for registering our Roku HD with VOD and for tweeting about VOD on my Twitter account (@CharlesAHall).

On Christmas Eve my wife and I watched Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas.  It was a great movie to watch on Christmas Eve!  And how much did we rent it for?  $0.99!!!  Less than a dollar!  We then watched The Santa Clause on Christmas Day along with Toy Story, Toy Story 2, and Knight and Day!  Total cost?  $4.95 total but we really didn't pay for any of those movies because of our $10 credit mentioned above!

Amazon Video On Demand is a great product and I highly recommend it!  I know that my family will be using it along with Netflix and Redbox well after our $10 credit runs out!  Cheaper than going to the movie store and more convienant.

I rate this product a solid 5 out of 5 stars!
